‘Op Around the Clock’ on World Spay Day
Young-Williams Animal Center is celebrating World Spay Day with 24 hours of surgeries for female and male cats, an “Op Around the Clock” event on Tuesday, Feb. 25, with two convenient check-in times at 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.
“Kitten season will be here soon, and we’re trying to keep a high influx of kittens from coming into the shelter by offering this 24-hour event for cat owners to spay or neuter their pets at our Spay/Neuter Solutions clinic,” said Jeff Ashin, CEO for Young-Williams Animal Center. “With our low-cost option of $45 to spay or neuter a cat and the morning and evening check-in times, this event is accessible for cat owners.”
World Spay Day is an annual campaign established 20 years ago by the Humane Society of the United States to spotlight the need for companion animals to be spayed or neutered. By spaying or neutering pets, communities save lives that may have been euthanized in a shelter.
“Every year, we take in more than 14,000 animals,” Ashin said. “Many of these animals are adopted, but some are euthanized. We must work to decrease the number of unwanted pets in the community, and the most simple and most humane solution is to spay and neuter more animals.”
In 2012, Young-Williams rolled out a spay-and-neuter program with the low-cost clinic at Young-Williams Animal Village at 6400 Kingston Pike.
Young-Williams encourages all community pet owners interested in the spay/neuter services to call 865-215-6677 Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to schedule their cat for spay or neuter surgery on Feb. 25. Pet owners can also request an appointment on Young-Williams’ website under spay/neuter solutions. Additional cost reductions are available for community members who qualify.
