‘Weight is Over’ adoption special encourages community to choose adult dogs

Fees reduced to promote dog adoptions

For community members looking for a furry friend, Young-Williams Animal Center encourages potential pet owners to “wait” no longer. Adult dogs are available at a reduced adoption fee during the “Weight is Over” special beginning Aug. 18.

Young-Williams Animal Center is currently at capacity for dogs. And because there are so many large dogs in the shelter, the “Weight is Over” fee reductions are tied to the animal’s size.

If a dog’s weight is 60 pounds or more, the adoption fee is waived. Dogs weighing between 30 and 59 pounds are $30, and dogs 29 pounds and under are $50. The normal adoption fee for an adult dog is $75.

“It’s important that our community understands how many animals are coming through our doors,” Young-Williams Animal Center CEO Jeff Ashin said. “As an open intake shelter, we take in more than 12,000 animals every year. We are currently at capacity with dogs. If you have room in your home and your heart for a new pet, please don’t wait any longer. Visit Young-Williams Animal Center or Young-Williams Animal Village and adopt today.”

Every adopted animal will receive the services covered by the normal adoption fees, which include a veterinary physical exam, spay/neuter surgery, some standard vaccinations, a microchip with registration and more. The adoption prices will be available at Young-Williams Animal Center at 3201 Division St., off Sutherland Drive, and the Young-Williams Animal Village at 6400 Kingston Pike on Bearden Hill.

By offering the adoption special, Young-Williams Animal Center hopes to increase awareness and encourage adoptions of adult dogs. The reduced fees will continue to be offered indefinitely based on the availability of adult dogs.
