Home Federal Bank presents concert of gospel, spirituals and opera

Hundreds gathered Jan. 24 for Knoxville Opera Goes to Church, a concert by the Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir presented by Home Federal Bank. A replay of the concert will be broadcast on WATE-TV on Sunday, Feb. 15, at 3 p.m.

In celebration of Black History Month, WATE-TV Channel 6 will air “Knoxville Opera Goes to Church … A Celebration of Talent!” on Sunday, Feb. 15, at 3 p.m.

Presented by Home Federal Bank and performed live Jan. 24 before hundreds of people at Greater Warner Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church, the concert is a mix of opera and gospel performed by local artists.

“Knoxville Opera Goes to Church is a wonderful celebration that routinely draws a large audience of enthusiastic music lovers,” Home Federal Bank President Dale Keasling said. “This telecast will allow those who couldn’t be there for the live show to enjoy this presentation of some of our area’s top talent, and those who attended can experience it again.”

Program selections include “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing,” “You Must Have That True Religion,” “Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child,” “Lord, I Don’t Feel Noways Tired,” “Hallelujah is the Highest Praise,” “Move on up a Little Higher,” “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother,” “Even Me,” Amazing Grace,” “Walk with Me, Lord” and excerpts from Bizet’s “Carmen.”

Music Director Jeanie Turner Melton and Knoxville Opera Maestro Brian Salesky conducted the 40-voice Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir at the concert. Soloists included Briana Hunter, Evelyn Jack and Sonia Roberts, along with Knoxville Opera guest artists Audrey Babcock, Brian Cheney and Ryan Kuster.
