U.S. Cellular (NYSE: USM) launched the fifth annual Calling All Communities (CAC) campaign on Monday, Nov. 4. It challenges schools to rally community support for the chance to win a share of $500,000 to fund what their students need the most to succeed. The top 20 schools that garner the most community votes will each win $25,000 to use as they wish to enhance their educational experience.

“We are bringing back our Calling All Communities campaign this year to continue our support of strengthening education,” said Jack Brundige, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Tennessee. “U.S. Cellular is committed to helping schools, and this campaign is one example of how we invest in the towns and cities where we live and work.”

Since the program began in 2008, 11 Tennessee schools have won a total of $950,000, including Seymour middle, primary and high schools; Heritage High School in Maryville; Bearden High School in Knoxville; Algood, Capshaw and Northeast elementary schools in Cookeville; A.H. Roberts Elementary School in Livingston; and Pickett County High School and Pickett County K-8 School in Byrdstown.

In total, U.S. Cellular has awarded $4 million to 56 schools across the country. Past winners of the Calling All Communities campaign have used the funds in a variety of ways to strengthen the learning experience for thousands of students. Winning schools outfitted their classrooms with new computers, improved outdated infrastructure and renovated gymnasiums, kitchens and science labs. A few gave scholarships to graduating students, while others donated some of their winnings to nonprofits around the world.

“We’re proud to bring back the campaign and look forward to seeing communities get behind their schools to help them become Calling All Communities Champions,” Brundige added.
