U.S. Cellular recently partnered with the Tennessee Smokies to host a Little League Takeover for Bearden Youth Sports. U.S. Cellular associates and Tennessee Smokies employees welcomed participants of the Bearden Youth Sports organization for an exciting minor league baseball experience.
The event began with the singing of the national anthem and announcements of each player as the Little League teams took the field. The teams played multiple games of baseball and participated in traditional Smokies games for fans, such as the dizzy bat race and Zorb bubble ball, while Smokies mascots Slugger and Homer cheered. After the games ended, each player completed a mock post-game interview and had their photo taken for a baseball card.
“At U.S. Cellular, we are passionate about volunteering in the communities where our associates live and work,” said Nathan Waddell, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Tennessee. “It was so much fun to watch as these kids enjoyed a day in the life of a professional baseball player. They all had such a great attitude and soaked in the excitement of the Smokies experience.”
Guests snacked on hot dogs, peanuts and other traditional baseball fare at mobile concessions stands while participating in the games and other contests.
The Little League Takeover took place at Bearden Middle School. The Tennessee Smokies, located in Kodak, are the Double A minor league affiliate of the World Series champion Chicago Cubs.
