Teachers can post projects for consideration at DonorsChoose.org starting Aug. 11

KNOXVILLE, TENN. (Aug 7, 2014) – U.S. Cellular is donating $1 million to fund classroom projects through its Calling All Teachers program, and East Tennessee public school teachers are encouraged to submit projects for consideration.

Since 2008, U.S. Cellular has awarded more than $1 million to schools and education in East Tennessee through various programs.

U.S. Cellular is working with DonorsChoose.org, and beginning Aug. 11, teachers are invited to post projects on the site for potential funding. DonorsChoose.org is a charity website that helps teachers identify funds from corporate and individual donations for classroom projects.

“Teachers play such a transformative role in student achievement and we want to help ensure they have the necessary tools to provide a positive learning experience,” said Jack Brundige, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Tennessee. “The Calling All Teachers program allows us to impact teachers and students in our entire footprint and create unique opportunities for teachers to engage, inspire and educate in the classroom.”

Public school teachers in K-12 can register online at DonorsChoose.org and become an affiliate as a U.S. Cellular teacher. Then, between Aug. 11 and Sept. 21, they can post proposed classroom projects. All projects must be submitted by the Sept. 21 deadline to be eligible for this year’s funding. Selected projects will be in announced in October.

Through U.S. Cellular’s ongoing commitment to the community and education, the company has contributed more than $7 million nationwide through Calling All Teachers and other philanthropic programming since 2008. Through DonorsChoose.org, U.S. Cellular has funded more than 4,500 projects to date, which included technology tools, art equipment and science experiments.

“Teachers are often looking for resources to improve students’ educational experiences, and we want to help ease the process,” said Charles Best, founder and CEO of DonorsChoose.org. “We’re pleased to join U.S. Cellular for a fourth year in their efforts because funding teachers’ classroom projects to this magnitude can have a lasting impact on students and schools.”
