Company invests $72.6 million overall across the state
U.S. Cellular upgraded the wireless experience for its Tennessee customers in 2013 by investing $57.6 million in 4G LTE network enhancements across the state. Currently, nearly 90 percent of U.S. Cellular customers have access to 4G LTE speeds that are up to 10 times faster than 3G and similar to a cable Internet connection. The company also invested $13.3 million in upgrades to its existing high-speed network in Tennessee.
U.S. Cellular is dedicated to the local communities it serves, so in addition to network enhancements, U.S. Cellular invested $1.6 million in Tennessee to upgrade its in-store experience with a high-engagement design that makes shopping an easy and enjoyable experience. Updates include an expanded device discovery zone, a connected devices engagement counter and a lounge. In 2013, the company built or renovated 13 of these hands-on, experiential store locations throughout the state, including Knoxville, Alcoa, Sevierville, Lenoir City and Maryville.
“These investments in our local communities allow us to provide the best wireless experience for our customers every time they use their phone or visit their local store,” said Jack Brundige, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Tennessee. “Many people look at their smartphone as the one device they can’t be without, and we want our customers to know that they are doing business with a wireless company that cares about them and their community.”
U.S. Cellular is dedicated to supporting education and the pressing needs of schools through the Calling All Communities campaign, in which the company donates $500,000 to schools across the country. In Tennessee, Powell Elementary School, Seymour Intermediate School and Brickey-McCloud Elementary School in Knoxville were 2013 Calling All Communities champions, and each received $25,000 to enhance the learning experience for its students.
