US Cellular Tom CataniThomas P. “Tom” Catani has been named vice president of the national business channel for U.S. Cellular (NYSE: USM). Catani previously served as vice president of the Chicago-based company’s East Region, which is headquartered in Knoxville, Tenn.

In his new role, Catani will lead the company’s nationwide efforts to enable and support small and medium business and government accounts using emerging mobile technologies. He will remain in Knoxville and continue to support U.S. Cellular’s customer satisfaction strategy by regularly communicating with customers and associates to ensure that the company is providing the very best in products and services.

“With years of experience and leadership in the industry, Tom empowers associates to provide superior customer service and tailored, integrated wireless technology solutions for small and medium businesses,” said Jay Ellison, executive vice president of sales and customer service for U.S. Cellular. “Every small business is different, and Tom’s team is dedicated to finding customizable solutions to meet their needs and keep them connected to customers, vendors and other business partners.”

Catani has more than 27 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. At U.S. Cellular, he previously served as the sales vice president of the East Region, providing direction and support to more than 1,200 associates in markets spanning Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia.

Before that, he served as senior director of sales and marketing for the company’s East Region. In that position, he led the successful formation of the company’s first state-of-the-art Customer Care Center in Knoxville.

“Tom is also passionate about giving back to his community,” Ellison added. “We’re proud of the many ways U.S. Cellular supports organizations and events in East Tennessee, and we know that Tom is involved in many of those great programs in Knoxville and that he is proud to serve our customers and the community as a whole.”

Catani serves on the Knoxville Area Urban League board of directors and was appointed by Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero to the Business Advisory Council. A 2007 Leadership Knoxville graduate, Catani also served as the chair of the organization’s Curriculum Committee. He has previously served on the United Way of Greater Knoxville board of directors, the Knoxville Opera board of directors and as chair of the Rossini Festival and on the Historic Tennessee Theatre Foundation board of directors.

Catani holds an MBA from Xavier University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Illinois. Catani resides in Farragut with his wife, Deanene Catani. They have three daughters and two sons.
