Elected officials, community leaders toast redevelopment benefiting visitors, residents

With a champagne toast, Nick Cazana, Commercial & Investment Properties president, formally announced today the redevelopment of the former state office building at 531 Henley St. as THE TENNESSEAN Personal Luxury Hotel and Residences.

“THE TENNESSEAN will be Knoxville’s signature hotel with a mix of urban luxury and local flair,” Cazana told elected officials and community leaders at the launch event. “Likewise, The Residences at THE TENNESSEAN will be unmatched in quality, service and amenities.”

Located in downtown Knoxville, THE TENNESSEAN is close to the vibrant shopping and dining of Market Square, the city’s art and theater districts, World’s Fair Park and the University of Tennessee. The City of Knoxville recently completed a covered walkway from the property to the Knoxville Convention Center and renovated the pedestrian bridge over Henley Street.

“The development of THE TENNESSEAN continues the renaissance along the city’s largest downtown green space at World’s Fair Park,” Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero said. “It also is an important connector between downtown, Fort Sanders and the University of Tennessee campus.”

THE TENNESSEAN hotel will offer 82 rooms and suites, meeting and event space, fitness center, valet parking and room service, in addition to other amenities. Both area visitors and local residents will enjoy fine spirits in a refined, contemporary atmosphere in the hotel’s Drawing Room.

“THE TENNESSEAN is a very welcome addition to Knoxville’s downtown hotel selections,” said Kim Bumpas, president of Visit Knoxville. “With its covered connection to the Knoxville Convention Center and its proximity to local attractions and the University of Tennessee campus, it will be ideal for both business and leisure travelers.”

Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett said THE TENNESSEAN will continue to position downtown Knoxville as a perfect place to visit and live.

“THE TENNESSEAN will help our tourism officials bring in more conferences and more visitors to Knox County, which will increase our local economy,” Burchett said.

Two top floors of the property will comprise 12 upper-bracket residences that will set a new standard for urban living in Knoxville. The Residences at THE TENNESSEAN offer buyers spacious units with floor-to-ceiling windows; premium finish options; attached, covered parking; and additional storage. Residents will enjoy resort-like amenities, including room service and valet parking. Pre-construction purchasers may tailor floor plans, if desired. More information about residential units is available at http://www.thetennesseanresidences.com.

Construction has begun inside the building, and officials expect THE TENNESSEAN to open in early 2017.
