The Swag earns national recognition by Travel & Leisure

July 12, 2018

The Swag, a luxury retreat nestled in the Smoky Mountains outside of Asheville, North Carolina, has been named to the Top 15 U.S. Resort Hotels list by Travel & Leisure. The Swag also landed in the top three on the list of Top 10 Resort Hotels in the South.

Every year, the rankings are determined by Travel & Leisure readers in its World’s Best online survey. Readers consider criteria such as facilities, location, service, dining and overall value. The Swag was classified as a resort based on its elegant, secluded location and amenities and earned the No. 11 spot in the United States and No. 3 spot in the South.

“We are humbled and honored by these rankings, as so many of our guests are loyal repeat customers,” said David Colquitt, owner and innkeeper at The Swag with his wife Annie. “We are excited that these rankings will help us introduce The Swag to new guests. Our team is grateful for the support and promises to keep our focus on genuine hospitality and attention to luxurious details that Travel & Leisure’s readers value and appreciate.”

David and Annie Colquitt, who are from Knoxville, Tennessee, fell in love with the property on their honeymoon and went on to purchase The Swag last spring after the longtime owners retired.

Open for its 37th season this summer, The Swag is located on 250 acres abutting the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Its award-winning accommodations, all-inclusive fine dining and spectacular mountain views at an elevation of 5,000 feet make The Swag a one-of-a-kind resort.

Guests reside in one of 14 rooms in luxurious cabins made of hand-hewn logs and decorated with antiques, regional artwork and handmade quilts. Most rooms have a private balcony, wood-burning stone fireplace and steam shower.

The property offers miles of hiking trails, expert nature guides and outdoor activities, massages, racquetball, badminton, croquet and a treehouse, among other amenities. A special events calendar including such delights as a cooking class can be found on the website.

Guests not staying overnight can still make reservations to sample the fine dining at The Swag’s restaurant or buy a gourmet picnic lunch to take on one of the 16 hiking trails, ranging from an hour to day-long excursions.
