Sweet P’s hosts World’s Fair Day, other fun events in May

Sweet P’s Barbeque has several events and specials planned for the month of May. The events and special offers for the two locations include:

  • World’s Fair Day – Tuesday, May 2, Downtown Dive, 410 W. Jackson Ave.

Sweet P’s Downtown Dive is celebrating the 35th anniversary of the 1982 World’s Fair with food and drink specials at 1982 prices. Bud Light will be $1 and Cherry Coke just 50 cents, as well as Frito Pies for $2. Customers also can buy the new World’s Fair Beer, a pale ale brewed in Knoxville. Chris Ford, owner of Sweet P’s Barbeque, owns the trademark for the 1982 World’s Fair logo and will award any customer who can complete a Rubik’s Cube in 15 minutes or less with a $15 Sweet P’s gift card. Children will receive vintage coloring books that were distributed free at the fair.

 

  • Mother’s Day Special – Sunday, May 14, Downtown Dive, 410 W. Jackson Ave.

Bring your mom to Sweet P’s for a special Mother’s Day meal of house-made bagels topped with dill cream cheese, pickled red onions, capers and house-made lox.

 

  • Taste ‘n’ Toast – Wednesday, May 24, 5-7 p.m., Downtown Dive, 410 W. Jackson Ave.

Sweet P’s hosts monthly Taste ‘n’ Toast fundraisers at the Downtown Dive, offering guests a chance to have a good time and support a good cause. This month, the Taste ‘n’ Toast will support the Bijou Theatre. Each $15 plate includes an entrée, sides and beer pairing with $5 of every specially created dinner donated to the theater. This month’s menu features Santa Maria Tri Tip steak, mashed cauliflower and blistered grape tomatoes. Lagunitas Brewing Company will sponsor beer pairings for the meal. Sweet P’s also will match the amount raised at the event for an additional donation to the Bijou Theatre.

 

  • Songwriters in the Soul House – Wednesday, May 24, 6-8 p.m., The Soul House, 3725 Maryville Pike

The Soul House presents David Olney as part of the fifth season of Songwriters in the Soul House. The show is free, and seating is first-come, first-served. Sweet P’s Barbeque also has partnered this year with Blackhorse Brewery to offer beer specials on handcrafted ales, including $2 cans during all shows. Acclaimed American folk singer/songwriter David Olney has released more than 20 albums over four decades, including six live recordings. His songs have been recorded by Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Del McCoury, Tim O’Brien and Steve Young, among many others.
