Sweet P’s makes back-to-school dinner easy with $48 carry-out meals for families and students at the Downtown Dive and Soul House throughout the month of August. Each meal consists of: one pound of pork, one pound of chicken, two pints of mac ’n’ cheese, two pints of coleslaw, six buns, sauce and paper products.

Taste ’n’ Toast – Wednesday, Aug. 23, 5-9 p.m., Downtown Dive, 410 W. Jackson Ave.

The August Taste ’n’ Toast will support Guardians for Garrett Kickball Tournament, an event to raise money and awareness for 8-year-old Garrett Jablonski. Garrett was diagnosed with Sanfilippo syndrome, a rare metabolism disorder that diminishes a child’s mental and physical function.

Each $15 plate includes an entrée, sides and beer pairing with $5 of every specially created dinner donated to Guardians for Garrett. Sweet P’s also will match the amount raised at the event for an additional donation. This month’s menu features pork loin kabobs with a chimichurri drizzle served with cucumber salad and dirty Hoppin’ John, a rice and black-eyed pea dish. Last Days of Autumn Brewing will sponsor this month’s beer pairing.
