Summit Medical Group has promoted Ed Curtis to chief executive officer.

Curtis, a certified medical practice executive (CMPE), joined Summit as chief operating officer in 2014 and most recently served as its chief administrative officer.
“Ed Curtis is a proven leader and strategic thinker,” said Dr. Robert Montgomery, chairman of Summit’s board of directors. “He came to Summit with a strong background that included leadership roles in the health care industry and beyond and quickly put his skills to use. Naming him to the role of CEO was the right thing to do for our organization to continue to grow and best serve the community’s health care needs.”
As CEO, Curtis is responsible for leadership of East Tennessee’s largest primary care organization, comprising a total of 230 physicians and more than 150 advanced practitioners. He also maintains oversight of Statcare, which includes 70-plus hospitalist and pulmonology physicians and 40 advanced practitioners who care for patients across six area hospitals and at Summit’s two dedicated pulmonology clinics located in Knoxville.
Curtis earned a business administration degree from West Virginia University and completed the Graduate School of Credit and Financial Management at Dartmouth College. Prior to joining Summit, Curtis was chief operating officer at Hattiesburg Clinic, a 300-plus physician-owned multispecialty provider practice with more than 40 locations in Southern Mississippi.
Curtis is a member of Healthcare Executive US Networking Group and Healthcare Executives Network, American Medical Group Association and Medical Group Management Association. He enjoys training for and participating in triathlons. He and his wife, Cathy, have two adult children and reside in the Deane Hill community of Knoxville.
