New company specializes in delivery of consumer-focused healthcare
East Tennessee’s leading primary care organization, Summit Medical Group, continues to grow with the development of a new business entity – Summit Strategic Solutions.
For 20 years, the 200-plus physician owned and operated group has provided comprehensive primary care services. Now Summit is leveraging that expertise to take the lead in developing healthcare delivery systems designed specifically for consumers, transforming the way healthcare is provided.
A privately held company, Summit Strategic Solutions officially launched in early 2015. Summit’s physician members and board of directors voted in late 2014 to form this innovative initiative, which will investigate, experiment, create and market healthcare delivery models that will perform well in a value-based healthcare environment.
Summit’s longtime Chief Executive Officer Tim Young will lead Summit Strategic Solutions, which includes a Management Services Organization (MSO) with Summit Medical Group as its first client.
“We have a compelling vision for transforming the healthcare delivery landscape by providing superlative management and consumer-focused healthcare solutions,” Young said. “Summit Medical Group will continue to provide the highest level of quality care to East Tennesseans, and we intend for Summit Strategic Solutions to extend beyond the region, scaled into a national entity with clients throughout the country.”
Summit Strategic Solutions currently operates the MSO, providing business, legal, financial and operational services to all of Summit Medical Group’s entities, including 54 physician practice sites and diagnostic, therapeutic and urgent care facilities spread throughout a 12-county region.
Headquartered in Knoxville at 1225 East Weisgarber Road, Summit Strategic Solutions’ corporate home base in East Tennessee serves as an economic boost for the area, ultimately providing additional jobs and growth.
“As we embrace the shift from fee for service healthcare to value-based healthcare, we have tremendous opportunity to expand our scope of service with Summit Strategic Solutions,” Young said. “We have significant interest in seeking outside business partners/investors, and we’re evaluating several business partnerships, which will allow us to scale business operations and healthcare delivery.”
Currently, Summit Strategic Solutions is evaluating a number of investment and partnership opportunities, with the potential for additional partnerships in the near term.
Young will continue to serve as a principal advisor to Summit Medical Group during the initial implementation of the new business structure. His knowledge of the healthcare industry and medical group operations ensures a smooth transition into his role as chief executive officer of Summit Strategic Solutions.
“Summit recognizes the need to be a leader in the value-based care space, creating healthcare delivery specifically for the consumer’s individual needs,” Young said. “I am pleased to lead this initiative, shaping the way healthcare will be delivered in the next decade.”
Summit Medical Group will continue to be governed by a physician-led board of directors, with operational responsibilities shifting to Ed Curtis, who joined Summit last year as chief operating officer. Curtis will serve Summit as chief administrative officer, effective June 1.
“This news represents a significant milestone in healthcare not only regionally but nationally,” Young said. “Our work is in the beginning stages, but we are on the cusp of changing the way healthcare is received, creating better outcomes and healthier lives.”
