St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral to host Inversion Vocal Ensemble on March 6

March 4, 2020

Performance will feature multiple genres, including classical, jazz, gospel and Broadway

The Concerts on Cumberland series continues Friday, March 6, with a performance by Emmy Award-nominated Inversion Vocal Ensemble, which will showcase a variety of musical works at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral.

The free hour-long event begins at 7:30 p.m. at the newly renovated cathedral in downtown Knoxville and will include a combination of classic anthems, soul-stirring spiritual arrangements, a cappella jazz standards, Broadway favorites and beloved hymns.

“We’re delighted to have the Inversion Vocal Ensemble as part of the Concerts on Cumberland series so that Knoxville has the chance to hear an incredible combination of voices,” said John C. Ross, dean of St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral. “Inversion Vocal Ensemble is a renowned group that will offer a lively and engaging performance for our audience. We invite members of the community to come, listen and enjoy.”

Inversion Vocal Ensemble will perform March 6 at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral.

The group, led by founder and Artistic Director Dave Ragland, comprises classically trained students and alumni of Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee, Oakwood University, Vanderbilt University, Morehouse College and Union University. Using their skills and passion for music, the talented group of performers bring an eclectic vibe to a variety of musical genres.

Inversion Vocal Ensemble has performed at prestigious venues, including the National Civil Rights Museum, Ryman Auditorium, Schermerhorn Symphony Center, McAfee Concert Hall, Noah Liff Opera Center and Cheekwood Estate & Gardens.

Concerts on Cumberland is part of a larger music series, Chords for the Community, which runs through July 2020 at the cathedral, located at 413 Cumberland Ave. St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral hosts several events for Concerts on Cumberland, including an upcoming ticketed collaboration with the Big Ears Festival later in March.
