St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral kicks off Chords for the Community on Sept. 9

September 6, 2018

Presented by St. John’s Cathedral Arts, series offers fresh takes on historical and contemporary genres

St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral is opening its doors to the community through an expansive music series called Chords for the Community, which kicks off Sunday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m.

Between now and the spring of 2019, more than 15 musical performances will be held at the cathedral, including vocal and instrumental offerings, as well as major events such as Big Ears Festival and an interactive Christmas carol concert.

The series starts with an Evensong performance featuring the joyful and dynamic music of Harold Friedell. Evensong, also known as evening prayer, is a soothing experience. Guests are invited to relax, reflect and recharge as the choir performs a 45-minute set drawn from music across all eras. Afterward, attendees will be treated to beverages and are invited to meet the choir members.

“St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral wants to reach out to our community, and we think that a series focused on music as part of our larger arts program is a great way to serve Knoxville,” said John C. Ross, dean of St. John’s Cathedral. “Everyone in the community is invited to enjoy the 2018-19 Chords for the Community series. The doors are open. Come, listen and enjoy.”
