October 22, 2019

Dr. Richard Breeden, Director of Clinical Education at the South College School of Pharmacy, has been appointed by Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee to serve on the state Board of Pharmacy.

Founded in 1893, the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy handles licensing and registration for pharmacy professionals and representatives and enacts rules for professional conduct and standards of practice across the state.

“This is an appointment I am both grateful for and understand the importance of as an educator in the School of Pharmacy,” said Breeden, who also is an associate professor at South College. “Serving on the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy will provide an opportunity for me to have a voice in pharmacy-related matters in the state and learn from my fellow board members about important issues and developments in our profession. I want to thank Gov. Bill Lee for the opportunity to serve and South College for providing the foundation and support for the School of Pharmacy.”

The Office of Clinical Education, which Breeden oversees, allows South College students to participate in the practical application of pharmacy under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The students apply what has been taught in the classroom and also learn how to become caring and compassionate providers in an immersive, hands-on process.

“This is a prestigious appointment for Dr. Breeden, and we offer our congratulations to him and echo his appreciation to Gov. Lee,” said Dr. William M. Gentry, dean of the South College School of Pharmacy. “I know that Dr. Breeden will serve with distinction and represent the professionalism and excellence of South College.”

South College offers a three-year pharmacy program at its Knoxville campus, making it the only accelerated Doctor of Pharmacy program in Tennessee. Knoxville-based South College also has campuses in Nashville; Atlanta, Georgia; and Asheville, North Carolina. For more information about South College, visit https://www.south.edu.
