Gentry, who most recently served as executive vice dean of the School of Pharmacy for four years, has been with South College for nearly eight years.

“Dr. Gentry has served in several capacities in Knoxville with increasing responsibilities in the School of Pharmacy,” said Steve South, chancellor of South College. “With every step, he has proven to be an excellent leader. He will make sure that the curriculum and academic opportunities adapt through innovation, and he supports students in every facet of their college career and beyond.”

Gentry succeeds Dr. Walter L. Fitzgerald Jr., founding dean of the South College School of Pharmacy.

Gentry also served as assistant dean of admissions and student programs and within the department of pharmacy practice. Prior to joining South College, he worked in the medical affairs division at Glaxo Pharmaceuticals and Kos Pharmaceuticals.

He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences in North Carolina and his Bachelor of Arts in biology from Carson-Newman University in Tennessee.

“Becoming dean of the South College School of Pharmacy is such an honor and not something I would ever take for granted,” Gentry said. “I am committed to the development of our faculty, staff and students to send educated and prepared pharmacy professionals to all corners of the world.”

Gentry started his new role Oct. 1.
