Students achieve 100% pass rate

For the third consecutive year, the South College nursing program boasts a 100 percent pass rate for the NCLEX-RN licensure exam. It is the only program in the state to achieve a perfect record over that time period.

“Our nursing curriculum includes rigorous coursework and practical clinical experience at South College,” said Steve South, president of South College. “We are extremely proud of our students’ hard work and perfect record.”

The NCLEX-RN is the licensing exam for registered nurses, which gives students authorization to practice the profession within the state it is granted. Without passing this final test, students are unable to be employed by Tennessee medical facilities.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a 26 percent increase in the demand for new nurses is expected between 2010 and 2020. This equates to 711,900 new jobs. The South College Nursing Program also boasts a 100 percent placement rate from 2011 to 2012.

According to South College nursing student satisfaction surveys, the staff’s dedication to academic success has been the program’s top strength.

“This achievement not only reflects the hard work of our graduates, but also the dedication of our nursing faculty,” South said. “We are equally proud of their commitment to excellence.”

The South College nursing program received full accreditation in September of 2008 by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. The program is one of 24 baccalaureate programs for nursing in Tennessee.
