South College Atlanta’s Licensed Practical Nursing certificate program earns full approval by Georgia Board of Nursing

October 3, 2021

South College Atlanta has earned full approval for its Certificate in Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program by the Georgia Board of Nursing.

The board cited the 100% pass rate of the program’s first graduating cohort on the initial licensing examination (NCLEX-PN) in its approval.

“After a rigorous review by the Georgia Board of Nursing, South College Atlanta’s Licensed Practical Nursing program has full approval,” said Josh Huffaker, president of South College Atlanta. “This vote by the board reflects the incredible contribution to nursing education that our faculty, curriculum and facility provide. I am grateful for the staff at South College who worked so hard to make sure we met or exceeded every standard for this approval.”

The Georgia Board of Nursing exists to protect, promote and preserve the public health, safety and welfare through legislative regulation and control of practical nursing and registered professional education and practice. The board granted the program provisional approval in May 2019, and the latest decision now ensures that current and future cohorts will earn an LPN certificate from a fully approved program at the Atlanta campus.

“Full approval allows South College Atlanta to expand the LPN program by accepting additional students,” Huffaker said. “The board’s decision confirms our courses, clinical training, faculty and external partners are preparing our students to succeed.”

The Georgia Board of Nursing will continue to monitor the quality of education that LPN students receive at South College Atlanta by annually reviewing the program, completing routine site visits and guiding program compliance and board regulations changes. The LPN program at South College Atlanta will have full approval status through Dec. 31, 2031, as long as it fulfills requirements.

South College Atlanta is accepting applications for the next Certificate in Licensed Practical Nursing cohort, which starts January 2022.

South College Atlanta, located at 2600 Century Parkway NE, has earned full approval for its Certificate in Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
