Shelter competing to win $50,000 from Michelson Found Animals
Young-Williams Animal Center, the official animal shelter for the City of Knoxville and Knox County, is seeking donations to help the organization win $50,000 from Michelson Found Animals. The proceeds will help care for the 12,000 animals the shelter takes in every year.
For the third year, Michelson Found Animals, founded by Dr. Gary Michelson, is sponsoring the “Saving Pets Challenge,” an online fundraising campaign for animal welfare organizations focused on reducing euthanasia. Animal shelters, rescue groups and spay/neuter clinics from around the country are competing for more than $150,000 in grants for innovative programs that expand lifesaving capacity in their communities.
Young-Williams has joined the challenge on CrowdRise, the largest crowd-funding platform.
“We’re so grateful for supporters like Michelson Found Animals and CrowdRise that want to help our community’s pets,” said Jeff Ashin, CEO of Young-Williams Animal Center. “I hope all of our supporters and advocates will contribute. We care for nearly 12,000 homeless pets a year. This will help cover the average cost of $36 per day to care for just one pet.”
The Saving Pets Challenge launched on CrowdRise on July 5 and runs through Aug. 4, ending at 1:59:59 p.m. Eastern. The team that raises the most during the challenge wins a $50,000 donation; second place, $30,000; third, $20,000; fourth, $10,000; and fifth, $5,000. Weekly bonus challenges enable charities to win up to an additional total of $35,000.
Bonus challenges include:
- July 5-12: Organization that raises the most will win $10,000.
- July 12-19: Every organization that raises at least $1,000 will be entered to win $2,000. There will be four winners.
- July 19-26: Two organizations that raise the most will play “rock-paper-scissors,” and the winning organization will receive $3,000. The other will receive $1,500.
- July 26-Aug. 2: Every organization that raises at least $500 will be entered to win $2,500. There will be three winners.
- 2-4: The first 200 donations of at least $25 will receive a $25 match.
