This weekend, Pilot Flying J is sponsoring the Revolution3 Triathlons in Knoxville. The festivities start Friday, May 16, with a one-mile Glow Run and continue with family adventure and kids’ triathlon races Saturday, May 17. On Sunday, the weekend will culminate with the 32- and 70.3-mile triathlons.
Revolution3 Triathlon’s support of a healthy lifestyle inspired the Pilot Flying J sponsorship as a demonstration of the company’s commitment to encourage better health and wellness among both its team members and customers. Pilot Flying J, which has a network of more than 650 travel centers and travel plazas across North America, wants to encourage team members and customers everywhere to make healthier choices.
“Pilot Flying J has a long history of support for health and a vigorous lifestyle,” said Dave Parmly, manager of employee services for Pilot Flying J.
In addition to the sponsorship, three professional drivers are participating in Sunday’s triathlon. Jeff Schmid, Mario Almendarez and Matt Buchanan have formed a relay team as part of the Truckers to Triathletes initiative.
“We are excited about the weekend’s events, and look forward to the successful performances of the professional drivers and all other competitors,” Parmly said.
Schmid will dive into the Tennessee River for the swimming portion, Almendarez will complete the 40-mile bike ride and Buchanan will run through Knoxville’s greenways and Sequoyah Hills neighborhood and cross the finish line in World’s Fair Park.
