Pilot presented a donation of $75,000 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Greater East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia (MDA) on May 14 at the Pilot Food Mart at 8541 Middlebrook Pike in Knoxville. The money was raised through the sale of paper green shamrocks during MDA’s Shamrocks Against Dystrophy campaign throughout the month of March.

The paper green shamrocks were sold to customers in all Knoxville-area Pilot Food Mart locations during the month of March for $1 each with proceeds going to the local MDA chapter.

“Pilot is committed to giving back to the communities we serve,” said Dan Fleming, vice president of operations for Pilot. “We appreciate the work the Muscular Dystrophy Association does here to support families across East Tennessee, and we are proud to continue our partnership to raise funds for the organization. It’s the generosity of our customers that makes this donation possible, and we’re so grateful to the community for stepping up to help their neighbors in need.”

This is the 28th year that Pilot has offered the local fundraising program, and this year’s sale of paper shamrocks at Pilot stores resulted in $75,000 raised for MDA.

“For many of us the shamrock is a symbol of luck, but to the families we support, MDA shamrocks represent so much more,” said Ashlyn Falgout, executive director for the MDA of Greater East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. “When someone purchases an MDA shamrock, the East Tennessee families served by our program directly benefit through services, including MDA summer camps and clinic visits. We are so grateful to the generosity of the greater Knoxville community in supporting our program and to Pilot for helping us make this fundraiser so successful.”
