U.S. Cellular and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley in Knoxville are kicking off the first Black History Month Art Contest, which honors the many contributions of African-Americans and encourages young people to learn more about these current and historic influencers.

East Tennessee children will kick off the Covenant Kids Run with a one-mile event at the Knoxville Zoo in January and end it on the 50-yard line at Neyland Stadium in April.

Cherokee Distributing Company has acquired Mid-South Distributing, another wholesale beverage distribution company, thus expanding its service area from 22 to 53 counties in Tennessee.

Top collegiate gymnastics teams from across the country will travel to Knoxville to compete in the 4th annual Ozone Collegiate Gymnastics Classic presented by Texas Roadhouse at the Knoxville Convention Center, Saturday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. NCAA women’s gymnastics teams competing in the invitational include Iowa State, U.S. Air Force Academy, University of Pittsburgh and Southeast Missouri State University.

Next Thursday and Friday, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will continue its Moxley Carmichael Masterworks Series with music of Beethoven & Bruch, conducted by Maestro Aram Demirjian, KSO Music Director Candidate, and guest violinist Philippe Quint performing Burch’s Violin Concerto No. 1. The concert will take place on Thursday, January 21 and Friday, January 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre.

The Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra will be featured in A Night with the Arts: A Celebration Concert in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre. This concert, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Commission of Greater Knoxville, TVA with support from Knox County Commissioners Ed Brantley, Sam McKenzie, and Bob Thomas.
