September 12, 2013

MariaCornelius350Maria M. Cornelius, a longtime communications professional, has joined Moxley Carmichael as a writer/editor.

Moxley Carmichael CEO Cynthia Moxley has known Cornelius for years because of their shared background in communications and journalism.

“Because of her lengthy experience as a reporter and editor, Maria will be a valuable asset on the scores of writing projects we undertake here at Moxley Carmichael,” Moxley said. “I am particularly impressed by the great relationships she still has with her former colleagues at the News Sentinel, several of whom told me she is one of the best writers and editors they have known. We welcome her as a colleague and a friend with whom we have been acquainted for several decades.”

Before joining Moxley Carmichael, Cornelius worked for Inside Tennessee, where she covered the Tennessee Lady Vols sports teams, and the News Sentinel, where she rose through the ranks from reporter to assistant managing editor.

Cornelius earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Memphis. Originally from North Carolina, she now resides in South Knoxville with her rescue dog Scout and five cats, including Cheese Puff, who was adopted from Young-Williams Animal Center.

Cornelius is a longtime fan of the Atlanta Braves, having attended her first baseball game at the old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in 1968. She is also an enthusiast of Minor League Baseball, especially the local Tennessee Smokies.
