The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra announces a $1 million gift from the Aslan Foundation to support three initiatives over the next five years. The gift will support the Chamber Classics Series, allow for subsidized ticket pricing to classical concerts and progress five part-time KSO woodwind musicians to full-time, making the Woodwind Quintet part of our core orchestra. These initiatives will take effect immediately.

“Welcoming five musicians to the ranks of our full-time core will be transformational to the KSO and its education programs which impact so many audiences here in East Tennessee,” said Lucas Richman, KSO Music Director. “Progressing these positions to full-time status has been a goal of mine since my arrival in Knoxville, and I look forward to introducing the members of the Quintet at events throughout our region during the 2013-14 season.”

The KSO has contributed to the cultural life in East Tennessee since 1935. Under the leadership of Lucas Richman, the orchestra consists of 75 professional musicians and performs more than 250 programs throughout East Tennessee each season. Performing in traditional venues such as the Tennessee Theatre, Bijou Theatre and the Civic Auditorium, and in non-traditional places like hospitals, school classrooms, nursing homes, city parks and churches, the KSO reaches more than 200,000 people throughout the region each year.
