The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Series presents the final concert Gabriel Lefkowitz & Friends on March 13 & 14. The KSO Concertmaster Series is sponsored by American Piano Gallery and Merchant & Gould. The two performances will take place at Remedy Coffee House on March 13 & 14 at 7:00 PM.
25 year-old KSO Concertmaster Gabriel Lefkowitz has been with the KSO for two seasons. He holds a Bachelors degree from Columbia University, where he graduated magna cum laude in three years and a Masters in Violin Performance from The Juilliard School where he studied with Joel Smirnoff and Masao Kawasaki.
The program featuring Lefkowitz and his KSO colleagues includes Schubert’s The Bee, Ponce’s Estrellita, Rachmaninov’s Daisies, Bazzini’s Round of the Goblins and Mendelssohn’s Octet. KSO musicians for Mendelssohn’s Octet include: Gordon Tsai, Edward Pulgar, Sean Claire, violin; Kathryn Gawne and Eunsoon Lee-Corless, viola; Andy Bryenton and Ihsan Kartal, cello; as well as pianist Kevin Class.
“In an unusual twist on the standard recital program, the first half is filled with encores for violin and piano,” says KSO Concertmaster Gabriel Lefkowitz. “We’ll be performing a variety of my favorite vignettes written for violin and piano accompaniment that include both beautiful love songs and dazzling show stoppers. The second half of the program features Mendelssohn’s mighty Octet for Strings, which the composer wrote when he was only 16. It is an incredible work so full of joy and excitement that it’s the absolute perfect way to bring this inaugural season of the series to a spectacular close.”

Remedy Coffee House is located at 125 W. Jackson Avenue in the Old City and creates an intimate recital hall. This series is a unique way to experience exquisite music in a comfortable, coffee-house setting where patrons can get “up close and personal” with the music.
