The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra presents a new recital series with the members of the Woodwind Quintet and the Principal Quartet entitled the KSO Q Series. This series consists of five concerts beginning at noon at The Square Room, located at 4 Market Square behind Café 4. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door and include a boxed lunch.

Patrons can purchase a subscription to the entire Q Series for $75 before single tickets go on sale August 18. Subscribers receive reserved seating for Q Series performances.

The Q SERIES performance dates are:

  • Wednesday, September 24
  • Wednesday, October 22
  • Wednesday, January 28
  • Wednesday, March 25
  • Wednesday, April 29

“We are excited to spotlight our Principal string and woodwind musicians through this new series,” said Rachel Ford, KSO Executive Director. “Launching the Q Series is made possible through a generous gift from the Aslan Foundation. The Foundation’s support allowed the KSO’s five principal woodwind musicians to transition to full-time members of our core orchestra last season. In addition to being active participants in the KSO’s extemsove educational programs, the Woodwind Quintet musicians join with the Principal Quartet to perform this recital series. We look forward to involving both groups as we introduce this downtown noontime series to a new KSO audience.”

The Woodwind Quintet members are: Ebonee Thomas, flute; newcomer Claire Chenette, oboe; Gary Sperl, clarinet; Aaron Apaza, bassoon and Jeffery Whaley, French horn. The Principal Quartet members are: Gordon Tsai and Edward Pulgar violin; Kathryn Gawne, viola and Andy Bryenton, cello.

The musical programs will be announced on the KSO website prior to each performance. Admission is general and seating is limited. Subscription tickets are on sale now and single tickets go on sale August 18, or can be purchased at the door for $20 if space allows. More information can be found at knoxvillesymphony.com or by contacting the KSO box office at 865-291-3310.

The KSO has contributed to the cultural life in East Tennessee since 1935. Under the leadership of Lucas Richman, the orchestra consists of 75 professional musicians and performs more than 250 programs throughout East Tennessee each season. Performing in traditional venues such as the Tennessee Theatre, Bijou Theatre and the Civic Auditorium, and in non-traditional places like hospitals, school classrooms, nursing homes, city parks and churches, the KSO reaches more than 200,000 people throughout the region each year.
