The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra opens its 2014-2015 Chamber Classics Series in two weeks. Maestro James Fellenbaum conducts the Chamber Orchestra, joined by cellist Wesley Baldwin. This concert will take place on Sunday, September 24 at 2:30 PM at the Bijou Theatre.
Musical selections on the program include Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 and Boccherini’s Cello Concerto in B-flat Major featuring Dr. Wesley Baldwin.
“This was the first cello concerto I learned to play, so it has a fond place in my heart,” says Cellist Dr. Wesley Baldwin. “The piece we perform today is originally the work of the classical Boccherini, but reorchestrated with Gruetzmacher’s 19th century romantic energy. The combined effort results in a jewel of a concerto and an excellent chance for the audience to hear the cello flourish.”

Wesley Baldwin has performed with many of the world’s great conductors and toured Japan, Scotland, England, Argentina, and Brazil as principal cellist of the New World Symphony. A passionate teacher, Wesley serves as the youngest full Professor in the School of Music at the University of Tennessee. His former students play and teach throughout the United States. During the summers, he performs and teaches at the Michigan City Chamber Music Festival, the ARIA academy, and at the Wintergreen Festival, where he serves on the faculty of the Wintergreen Academy and holds the Leonard Rose Memorial chair as principal cellist of the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra.

The KSO has contributed to the cultural life in East Tennessee since 1935. Under the leadership of Lucas Richman, the orchestra consists of 80 professional musicians and performs more than 250 programs throughout East Tennessee each season.
