Next Thursday and Friday, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will continue its Moxley Carmichael Masterworks Series with music of Beethoven & Bruch, conducted by Maestro Aram Demirjian, KSO Music Director Candidate, and guest violinist Philippe Quint performing Burch’s Violin Concerto No. 1. The concert will take place on Thursday, January 21 and Friday, January 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre. Tickets start at just $15 and are available here.

Musical selections include John Adams’ quick-tempo Lollapalooza, followed by Ligeti’s lively Romanian Concerto, featuring solos by KSO members. The Orchestra will be joined by Philippe Quint for Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 and the program will conclude with the dance-infused, rhythmic Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Throughout the KSO’s 2015-16 season six candidates will audition for the position of the next KSO Music Director. “This concert contains so much of what I love about music–fiery energy, intense beauty, deep emotion and boundless fun,” said conductor Aram Demirjian. “Whenever I am conceiving a program, I always try to combine pieces that speak to each other and that audience members can connect with, no matter how much or how little music they might know coming in. I am also excited to introduce two less familiar pieces that are longtime favorites of mine. I am thrilled to collaborate with my friend Philippe Quint, one of the most talented, sensitive, charismatic young violinists in the music world. He brings a richness, warmth and flexibility to the Bruch Violin Concerto rarely found among players in our time, and a seemingly effortless virtuosity and touch of dramatic flair that wins the adoration of everyone who hears him. It is a privilege to come to Knoxville and conduct this phenomenal orchestra, and I look forward to meeting the audience and the community as well.”
Aram Demirjian is rapidly distinguishing himself in the orchestral world for his dynamic and expressive presence on the podium and magnetic rapport with audiences of all musical backgrounds. As Associate Conductor of the Kansas City Symphony, Mr. Demirjian conducts over 60 performances each season, including the Family, Education and Pops series, in Kansas City’s acoustically superb new Helzberg Hall. In his first season, he designed and launched the widely acclaimed Classics Uncorked series, which presents weeknight classical concerts, enhancing the concert hall experience with thematic programming, visual elements, musical demonstrations and audience interaction.
Philippe Quint
Award-winning American violinist Philippe Quint is a multifaceted artist whose wide range of interests has led to several Grammy nominations for his albums, performances with major orchestras throughout the world at venues ranging from the Gewandhaus in Leipzig to Carnegie Hall in New York. Philippe Quint plays the magnificent 1708 “Ruby” Antonio Stradivari violin on loan to him through the generous efforts of The Stradivari Society®. A recent winner of “Ambassador of Arts” award presented to Philippe by Brownstone and Gateway Organizations at the United Nations last March, and recent performances include debuts with the London Philharmonic, Rochester Philharmonic, Phoenix Symphony and San Antonio Symphony, among others.
Patrons can attend pre-concert chats at 6:30 p.m. in the concert hall before each performance. Guest performers will offer their personal perspective and audience members will have a chance for Q&A with the artists. This is a unique get-to-know-you opportunity!
