The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will perform “Broadway Romance” as part of the KSO News Sentinel Pops Series on Saturday, Feb. 10. Next week, the KSO will perform a program of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff for “Russian Passion” on Feb. 15-16 as part of the Moxley Carmichael Masterworks Series.
Resident Conductor James Fellenbaum will conduct the KSO with special guest vocalists straight from Broadway, Doug LaBrecque, Christiane Noll and Rachel York, in hits from the musicals Rent, Crazy for You, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked and more. The concert will take place Saturday, Feb. 10, at 8 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium. Tickets range from $36-$92. View seats and purchase tickets.
The “Valentine’s Weekend: Russian Passion” concert, led by Music Director Aram Demirjian and featuring pianist Tanya Gabrielian, will take place Thursday, Feb. 15, and Friday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre. Musical selections include Tchaikovsky’s Rose Adagio from The Sleeping Beauty, part of his beloved ballet. The KSO welcomes pianist Tanya Gabrielian, a former 2014 Evelyn Miller Young Pianist Series featured artist who returns to Knoxville to perform Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini. The program concludes with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, the story of a young maiden who becomes queen in the book, “One Thousand and One Nights,” also containing stories of Aladdin and Ali Baba. The clever maiden, Scheherazade, tricks the sultan into keeping her alive for 1,001 nights by telling him stories, by which time he falls in love and makes her his queen.

Patrons can attend pre-concert chats at 6:30 p.m. in the concert hall before each Moxley Carmichael performance. Guest performers will offer their personal perspective, and audience members will have a chance for Q&A with the artists.
