Knoxville Convention Center Director of Operations Jason Bourgoyne accepts the 2014 Outstanding Property Manager of the Year award from the Building Operators and Managers Association Greater Knoxville President Brent Williams at the organization’s award ceremony in December.

Jason Bourgoyne, director of event services and operations for the Knoxville Convention Center, has been named the 2014 Outstanding Property Manager of the Year by the Building Owners and Managers Association Greater Knoxville (BOMA).

The award is given annually to an individual who demonstrates extensive service to the organization and the education of its members. Award recipients are nominated and voted on by the BOMA board. Bourgoyne was honored at the organization’s annual holiday celebration this month.

“Jason has been integral to the success of our chapter over the past 10 years,” said Brent Williams, BOMA Greater Knoxville outgoing president. “Jason was very involved in major projects this year, especially the trade show in February. He stepped in to help organize the event and was the troubleshooter for everything on the day of the trade show. The show was a big success, and Jason was the linchpin to make it happen.”

BOMA Greater Knoxville’s membership includes commercial property managers, facility managers and vendors who meet monthly for organized and field-specific programs. BOMA Greater Knoxville is a local association affiliated with BOMA International, a federation of 92 BOMA associations in the United States and 17 international affiliates. Bourgoyne, who has been a board member since 2005, served two terms as president of the organization.

“In my role as director of operations for the Knoxville Convention Center, I’m always

behind the scenes making things work,” Bourgoyne said. “The award was a wonderful surprise, and I am humbled to be honored by my peers. It’s great to receive recognition for hard work.”

Bourgoyne has served as operations director for the Knoxville Convention Center since 2001 when the facility was still a construction site. Bourgoyne implemented an extensive green building upgrades program, including an energy-efficiency program in partnership with the City of Knoxville’s energy contractor, Ameresco. In 2013, the Knoxville Convention Center become the first convention center in the state to receive LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Originally from Louisiana, Bourgoyne and his wife, Faith, have three young children and live in West Knoxville.

Also at the awards ceremony, Bryan Goldberg, general manager of BELFOR, was honored as the Outstanding Vendor of the Year. BELFOR provides emergency restoration and reconstruction services to Knoxville and surrounding areas.

The Knoxville Convention Center, managed by SMG, is located in downtown Knoxville adjacent to the Sunsphere. It boasts a 120,000-square-foot exhibit hall, a 27,000 square-foot divisible ballroom and up to 25 meeting rooms. For more information, visit http://www.knoxvilleconventioncenter.com.
