More than 800 government workers from counties and municipalities across Tennessee will gather at the Knoxville Convention Center this week for the Tennessee Public Transportation Association (TPTA) Conference and Expo and the Tennessee Stormwater Association (TNSA) East Tennessee Development Symposium.

“All of us at the Knoxville Convention Center love our city and our state,” Knoxville Convention Center General Manager Mary Bogert said. “We are proud to be able to host these conferences that teach best practices and trends for improving services across Tennessee.”

The TPTA Conference and Expo will be held Nov. 4-7. The event is hosted by Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) and the City of Knoxville. The sessions and workshops will focus on issues facing public transportation. An exposition also will be held in the exhibit hall with vendors showing the latest transportation services, equipment, technology and products.

The conference also will include a “Bus Roadeo” competition, where the most skilled bus operators in Tennessee will negotiate a traffic cone obstacle course that simulates road conditions. The competition is divided into categories based on bus size. Conference attendees will be bused from the Knoxville Convention Center to Chilhowee Park for the competition on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Second Annual TNSA East Tennessee Development Symposium will be held Nov. 4-5 and will share best practices and trends in land development and stormwater management in the region. The event is hosted by Knox County Stormwater Management, the City of Knoxville Stormwater Engineering Division and the Town of Farragut. Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero will be the guest speaker at the luncheon held Nov. 4 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
