Photo contest winners will receive free family seasonal memberships to new water park attraction

Which two area kids will be the first down the slides at the public grand opening of Kingsport Aquatic Center’s water park attraction? The center is now accepting photo entries at http://www.swimkingsport.com for this momentous opportunity.

Two winners will take the inaugural runs down the two outdoor slides when the outdoor water park opens to the public on Saturday, May 25, at 10 a.m. Winners will also receive free family seasonal passes to the center, which are valid from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

“The Kingsport Aquatic Center will be the go-to place for family fun and fitness in our community, and this contest will be a fun way to kick off our water park’s opening,” said the center’s director, Kari Matheney. “We look forward to seeing lots of photos of excited kids who can’t wait to make the first splash at our outdoor water park.”

Contest details are available online at http://www.swimkingsport.com, where the public is invited to upload kid photos and brief descriptions of why the kid should be the first down the slide. Entries may be uploaded on the site through Wednesday, May 15, at 5 p.m. Kids 7 to 13 years old are eligible to enter, with parental permission. Residents without home computer or smartphone Internet access may use public computers at the Kingsport Public Library, 400 Broad Street, to enter.

Contest winners will be announced at the center’s ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, May 17. The center’s indoor amenities will be available to the public beginning that afternoon.

Located at the foot of scenic Bays Mountain in Kingsport’s Meadowview district, the state-of-the-art facility features both indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and activities. The 46,000-square-foot inside area includes the region’s only indoor Olympic-size eight-lane, 50-meter pool; a four-lane, 25-meter, zero-entry pool specially designed for instruction and therapy; and a leisure pool with water slide. Also inside are one-meter and three-meter diving platforms.

The center’s world-class pools and equipment are designed for all levels of competitive sports. The outdoor water park attraction, open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, features a large pool with a water playground and lily pad crossing, two water slides, a 900-foot lazy river and a concession area.

American Red Cross swim lessons, water aerobics, safety courses, facility rentals and lane rentals will be available in the new center. Complete birthday party package options are also available.
