New hours allow more after-school and after-work swimming
As area kids go back to school, the Kingsport Aquatic Center is changing its hours of operation beginning Monday, Aug. 12, to offer students additional evening hours to enjoy its outdoor amenities. The Kingsport Aquatic Center is now the area’s only public outdoor water park open during the week.
The outdoor water park will be open Monday through Friday 1-8 p.m. Weekend hours will remain Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The extended hours will be in effect until the outdoor water park closes for the season on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2, at 8 p.m. The Kingsport Aquatic Center outdoor water park includes two waterslides, a lily pad crossing, a water play structure and a 900-foot lazy river.
The Kingsport Aquatic Center’s indoor facility is open year-round. Hours are Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m., with open swim beginning at 11 a.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m., with open swim beginning at 11 a.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m. The 46,000-square-foot indoor area features include three multipurpose pools specially designed for recreation, instruction and competition, including the region’s only indoor Olympic-size pool.
