Program honors outstanding volunteers, supports local nonprofits; nominations accepted through March 27

051Q9891_RGB 2x3Home Federal Bank today launched its fifth Hometown Heroes community service awards program to honor outstanding volunteers who make East Tennessee a more comfortable place for all of us.

Potential Hometown Heroes honorees include those who mentor kids; support seniors; advocate for the most vulnerable; care for animals; expand the region’s cultural opportunities; and serve in other ways to make East Tennessee a great place to live.

“The Hometown Heroes program has shown there are many unsung heroes in our community, volunteers who passionately and consistently serve with little or no recognition,” Home Federal Bank President Dale Keasling said. “Hometown Heroes awards recognize the value of the work they do and provide a way for these volunteers to financially support the nonprofits that inspire them to action.”

Eight 2015 Hometown Heroes honorees will be recognized for their volunteer work in our community. All eight honorees will select a local nonprofit for a $2,500 donation in their names. From these finalists, an overall honoree will have an additional $2,500 donation to his or her chosen nonprofit.

In 2014, Home Federal Bank named Sevier County teen MacKenzie Thomas as the overall Hometown Heroes honoree in recognition of her volunteer work with the Sevier County Veterans’ Emergency Fund. The fund received a $5,000 donation from the bank in Thomas’ name.

Anyone may nominate a Hometown Hero. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, March 27, at 5 p.m. Full details and a nomination form are available for download at http://www.homefederalbanktn.com or can be picked up at any of the bank’s 23 offices in Knox, Anderson, Blount and Sevier counties. Honorees will be announced beginning in April.

“Hometown Heroes reflects the heart of Home Federal Bank,” Keasling said. “As a hometown bank, we are invested in our community and welcome this opportunity to honor the people of East Tennessee who tirelessly give of themselves to make it an even better place.”

Hometown Heroes media sponsors include the News Sentinel, WVLT-TV 8 and WIVK-FM 107.7.
