[title] Free concert of gospel, spirituals and opera features a 40-voice choir

Locally owned Home Federal Bank continues its tradition of community support as the presenting sponsor of the fifth annual “Knoxville Opera Goes to Church… A Celebration of Talent.”

The concert, a mix of opera, spirituals and gospel performed by local artists, is a celebration of music and the performing arts. The event is free to the public and will be held Sunday, Oct. 6, at 5 p.m. at New Covenant Baptist Church, 10319 Starkey Lane, in West Knoxville.

“We appreciate the opportunity to support this celebration,” said Home Federal Bank President Dale Keasling. “This concert brings together a wide cross-section of our community to enjoy a unique presentation by some of our area’s top talent.”

Music Director Jeanie Turner Melton and Knoxville Opera Maestro Brian Salesky will conduct the 40-voice Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir. The Knoxville Opera is the only opera company in the world to have its own gospel choir.

Soloists include Knoxville Opera guest artists Talise Trevigne, Kevin Thompson, Evan Bowers, Markus Beam and Leah Serr, along with Evelyn Jack and Calvin Daniels.

Program selections include “Anthem of Praise,” “Ain’t Got Time to Die,” “Center of My Joy,” “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands,” “I Know the Lord Will Make a Way” and “Every Praise is to Our God.” Also included are excerpts from Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love,” Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffman” and Bellini’s “Norma.”

The popular concert is part of the Knoxville Opera’s more than 75 outreach activities each year.
