Bank donates $2,500 to Ronald McDonald House in Crawford’s name

Home Federal Bank named Evelyn Crawford a 2013 Hometown Hero and presented a check for $2,500 in her name to Ronald McDonald House at a ceremony held at Home Federal Bank’s headquarters in downtown Knoxville on Monday, May 6.
Now in its third year, the Hometown Heroes program spotlights ordinary people who do extraordinary things for others and their community. The public submitted dozens of nominations and ten winners were selected for their extraordinary volunteer work in the community.
A $2,500 donation is made in each honoree’s name to the nonprofit of his or her choice, and an overall winner of the ten finalists will have an additional $2,500 donation made in his or her name.
“There are so many great people that selflessly do an incredible amount of good for our community and never get the credit they deserve,” said Home Federal Bank President Dale Keasling. “People like Evelyn Crawford, whose many years of volunteer efforts have helped improve the quality of life for countless seniors in our community, exemplify what it means to be a Hometown Hero.”
At 87 years young, Crawford’s volunteer efforts have made a significant impact on seniors throughout our community for many years. She has been a part of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program in Knox County since 1986; a volunteer for the Knox County Library, delivering books to homebound elderly since 1990; and a Mobile Meals volunteer since 1985. Delivering an average of 108 meals a week – more than 5,000 meals a year – she provides a friendly visit and nutritional support for the homebound.
Additionally, with her boundless energy she also volunteers an average of 56 hours each month at Tennova Residential Hospice Center in Halls.
“We are happy to honor these Hometown Heroes,” said Keasling. “And we are pleased to support these programs that do such great things for our neighbors throughout the year.”
Executive Director Sue Beverly accepted the donation on behalf of Ronald McDonald House.
