Bank donates $2,500 to Catholic Charities of East Tennessee Pregnancy Help Center in Ayuso’s name

Home Federal Bank named Elena Morales Ayuso a 2014 Hometown Hero and presented a check for $2,500 in her name to Catholic Charities of East Tennessee to benefit its Pregnancy Help Center at a ceremony at the Home Federal Bank Farragut branch on Tuesday, April 22.
In its fourth year, the Hometown Heroes program spotlights ordinary people who do extraordinary things for others and their community. Eight winners were selected for their extraordinary volunteer work based on nominations from area nonprofits and the general public.
A $2,500 donation is made in each honoree’s name to the nonprofit of his or her choice, and an overall winner of the eight finalists will have an additional $2,500 donation made in his or her name.
“This is the fourth year of the Hometown Heroes community service awards program, and I continue to be amazed at the tremendous work being done by dedicated volunteers who quietly serve in so many ways,” Home Federal Bank President Dale Keasling said. “People like Elena, whose volunteer efforts help make life better for individuals suffering hardships, exemplify what it means to be a Hometown Hero.”
Ayuso is an individual with a heart for helping those in need. She is known to “show up on the doorstep” to offer hands-on support for those struggling due to issues such as an illness, financial setback or unemployment. She also regularly volunteers with Catholic Charities of East Tennessee’s Pregnancy Help Center and works with immigrants to help them prepare for the citizenship test, facilitates faith formation groups in English and Spanish, takes meals to bedridden or homebound individuals, shops for the elderly and sick, and teaches life skills to those seeking to better themselves.
“Hometown Heroes affords us the opportunity to recognize some commendable individuals,” Keasling said. “Additionally, the program allows us to support many area nonprofits that do a lot of important work in our community.”
Sandi Davidson, Pregnancy Help Center program manager, accepted the donation on behalf of the organization.
