Bank donates $2,500 to Locked Down on the Outside in Kinnebrews’ names

Home Federal Bank named Rebecca “Becky” and Thurman Kinnebrew 2014 Hometown Heroes and presented a check for $2,500 in their honor to Locked Down on the Outside at a ceremony at the Home Federal Bank Magnolia branch on Thursday, April 24.
In its fourth year, the Hometown Heroes program spotlights ordinary people who do extraordinary things for others and their community. Eight winners were selected for their extraordinary volunteer work based on nominations from area nonprofits and the general public.
A $2,500 donation is made in each honoree’s name to the nonprofit of his or her choice, and an overall winner of the eight finalists will have an additional $2,500 donation made in his or her name.
“This is the fourth year of the Hometown Heroes community service awards program, and I continue to be amazed at the tremendous work being done by dedicated volunteers who quietly serve in so many ways,” Home Federal Bank President Dale Keasling said. “People like Becky and Thurman, whose volunteer efforts impact the lives of many young people in our area, exemplify what it means to be a Hometown Hero.”
East Knoxville residents and retirees, the Kinnebrews are the founders of – and the force behind – Locked Down on the Outside (LDO), a ministry designed to keep Knoxville’s young men and women out of prison rather than trying to change their lives following incarceration. LDO is an all-volunteer ministry targeted to at-risk boys and girls ages 12 to 17 that focuses on changing attitudes, behaviors and lives. Founded in 2002, the ministry has served more than 500 boys and girls through weekend camps that include instruction, activities and meaningful messages from speakers such as former gang members, drug dealers and inmates.
“Hometown Heroes affords us the opportunity to recognize some commendable individuals,” Keasling said. “Additionally, the program allows us to support many area nonprofits that do a lot of important work in our community.”
Gary Johnson, Locked Down on the Outside board chair, accepted the donation on behalf of the organization.
