Hillcrest Healthcare selects Barry Davis as president and CEO

Hillcrest Healthcare Communities has named Barry Davis as president and chief executive officer of the largest provider of skilled nursing care in Knoxville.

Davis served Hillcrest Healthcare as vice chair of its board of directors from 2013-2018, then held a five-month term as president-elect before being named president and CEO of the company. Prior to joining Hillcrest in his new position as president and CEO, Davis was executive vice president and chief operating officer for three years at Cherokee Farm Development Corporation, which oversees the development of The University of Tennessee Research Park at Cherokee Farm.

He will elevate our standards in order to provide the highest level of care at our health and rehabilitation facilities.”

Hillcrest Healthcare operates three skilled nursing, rehabilitation and long-term care facilities in north, south and west Knoxville. With 560 beds and more than 500 employees, it is the largest provider of skilled nursing care in Knoxville. Hillcrest Healthcare is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, providing services to the citizens of Knox and surrounding counties since 1960.

Previously, Davis was a co-founder and board member of Prisma Renewable Composites LLC. and Genera Energy Inc., two technology startups utilizing research from the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He also served in senior leadership and board roles with TennEra, LLC, a subsidiary of the University of Tennessee Research Foundation.

Prior to those roles, Davis led real estate development firms in Sevier and Blount counties and accounting firms in Maryville and Nashville.

Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee and is both a certified public accountant and chartered global management accountant.

Davis and his wife, Sylvia, reside in Blount County and are passionate about being involved in their community. Davis is a graduate of Leadership Blount and a past president of the Alcoa City Schools Foundation and the Boys Club of Blount County, now part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley. Sylvia Davis is a retired UT vice president, current owner of Louisville Mercantile and a member of the Blount County Public Building Authority.
