LDA Engineering was recently selected by the Greeneville Water Commission to design and install a new raw water bar screen and intake structure system to alleviate operational issues at the East Tennessee town’s existing raw water intake structure on the bank of the Nolichucky River.
“We are excited and proud to work with the Greeneville Water Commission to develop a plan to update the town’s raw water intake facility,” LDA Engineering President Jason Brooks said. “Our team of water engineering experts stand ready to provide excellent engineering design, field work and consulting service to provide a customized solution for Greeneville.”
LDA Engineering will survey the area, assess the topography and create a final design that is ready to be bid for construction. The company also will provide additional engineering consultation throughout the project for the Greeneville Water Commission.
Currently, the intake facility is experiencing issues that include allowing too much sand and debris into the wet well of the raw water pump station, inadequate existing pumping capacity and mechanical issues with one of the pumps that is causing abnormal vibration and unusual bearing wear.
“With our experience and expertise, LDA Engineering will work with the Greeneville Water Commission throughout this process to ensure the present issues are corrected and future water pumping needs are accommodated,” Brooks said.
The Greeneville Water Commission was chartered in 1911, and currently serves 10,000 customers, as well as provides water to four utility districts. LDA is making upgrades to the raw water intake to help the water distribution system operate more efficiently. The project is estimated to cost the Greeneville Water Commission approximately $2.4 million, which will come from federal and local funds.
