Gerdau recently donated basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, games, movies and personal hygiene items to its Lonsdale neighbor, Wesley House Community Center.

“Our mill has been in the Lonsdale community for more than 110 years under various names and owners, and Wesley House has been in the community since 1907,” said Johnny Miller, vice president and general manager of the Gerdau steel mill in Knoxville. “Supporting the Wesley House is a natural fit and a good way to exercise our responsibility to be a good neighbor.”

Wesley House first served as a child care center for mothers who worked at Brookside Mills. Today, the program serves children and seniors through a variety of programs.

“We were thrilled with the donation from Gerdau,” said Wesley House Executive Director Tim Adams. “They called one day to see what we needed and showed up the next day with all kinds of stuff, including lots of balls, games and movies. Now we have things to entertain our kids – inside or out.”

Gerdau has a robust social responsibility program that focuses on providing community support in the locations where it operates.

Nationally, Gerdau donates funds to the United Way, Habitat for Humanity and Junior Achievement.
