Gerdau recently purchased and packed 30 boxes of food, each containing a complete Thanksgiving meal large enough to feed up to six people, in support of Knox Area Rescue Ministries’ (KARM) “Baskets of Hope” community food giveaway initiative.

Baskets of Hope Thanksgiving baskets are “adopted” by individuals and businesses in the community, who shop, fill and decorate the boxes before delivering them to KARM for distribution to area families in need. In addition to providing the donations, Gerdau employees will help KARM distribute baskets to hundreds of people on Sunday, Nov. 24.

“We’re always glad to have an opportunity to give back to our community,” said Johnny Miller, vice president and general manager of the Gerdau steel mill in Knoxville. “We appreciate KARM’s dedication to providing for those less fortunate, and are honored to join them in this holiday tradition.”

Gerdau has a robust social responsibility program that focuses on providing community support in the locations where it operates.
