With the shelter overrun with adoptable dogs, Young-Williams Animal Center is starting the Furry Fall Festival celebration early. From Friday-Sunday, Oct. 4-6, all dog adoption fees will be reduced.
During the Furry Fall Festival Weekend Special, puppies are available for a $50 adoption fee; adult dogs (6-months-old to 6-years-old) are available for a $25 adoption fee; and all senior dogs (seven and older) are available for a $10 adoption fee. These fees are reduced from the regular adoption fees of $150 for puppies, $75 for adult dogs and $25 for senior dogs.
To cap off the weekend special, the Furry Fall Festival, which is free and open to the public, will be held Sunday, Oct. 6, from noon-3 p.m. at Young-Williams Animal Center at 3201 Division St. off Sutherland Avenue.
“We’re excited to welcome friends, donors, adopters and any and all animal lovers – and also their pets – to the Furry Fall Festival on Sunday,” said Amy Johnston, director of outreach for Young-Williams Animal Center. “We’re also hoping that many potential dog adopters will visit throughout the weekend to take advantage of our reduced adoption fees and to find their newest furry family member.”
Pet- and family-friendly activities at Sunday’s festival include twice as many booths as last year and feature:
- Rabies vaccinations by the Knox County Health Department for $10.
- Pet microchipping and microchip registration by Young-Williams Animal Center for $10.
- Pet adoption information from Young-Williams and regional animal rescue groups.
- Meet-and-greet with Wivick the Frog from WIVK-FM 107.7.
- Information about Young-Williams Spay/Neuter Solutions.
- Treats for furry friends and give-away items for kids.
- Kid Zone, including face painting, games, inflatables and an arts and crafts booth sponsored by Michaels.
Representatives from local and regional animal rescue organizations will be present, and some will have adoptable animals on site. Rescue groups and other organizations scheduled to attend include: Adopt A Golden Knoxville, Tennessee Valley Golden Retriever Rescue, East Tennessee Pit Bull Rescue, Humans & Animals Learning Together, Human Animal Bond in Tennessee, Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley and German Shepherd Rescue of East Tennessee.
All adopted dogs receive the standard medical services provided by Young-Williams Animal Center adoption fees including: a veterinary physical exam, spay/neuter surgery, DAPP and Kennel Cough vaccinations, heartworm test and one month of heartworm prevention, standard deworming, one month of flea prevention, nail trim and ear cleaning, and a microchip with registration. The value of these services for an adult dog could cost a pet owner more than $600 through private veterinarian offices.
