The popularity of pet ownership is at an all-time high. Taking care of a dog is a lot of responsibility, but there are many innovative technology products to help pet lovers. For instance, according to a recent U.S. Cellular survey1, 73 percent of smartphone owners use location-tracking apps at least once a month, and they can now be used for pets.
“The biggest fear for many pet owners is having their pet get lost or hurt while away from home. Thankfully, finding lost pets has become much easier and faster because of digital pet trackers that utilize GPS technology and link to owners’ smartphones,” said Nathan Waddell, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Tennessee. “Innovative technologies have made it simple and user-friendly to take care of your pets during the dog days of summer – and all throughout the year.”
Now, increasingly, people are leveraging things like GPS technology to track their pets. Here are some others to consider:
- FOLLOW FIDO — Wearable devices are no longer just for humans. Collars like the Whistle 3 Pet Tracker use GPS software to track pet movements and send smartphone notifications when a pet leaves a designated safe zone. This provides pets the freedom to roam outside, while reassuring owners that they’re safe. Simply connect the device to your phone or computer, load it up with food, treats, or medicine, and schedule feedings when you can’t be home to dispense them. To make sure your pet knows the food is there, record a personal voice message. An included app lets you monitor your pet’s diet over time.
- ENTERTAIN THEM. Pebby enables owners to interactively play ball with pets via an app on the phone. Pebby has a camera and a speaker so owners can see, speak and interact with their pets when away from home, keeping their four-legged friends entertained. The device can be remotely recharged and is protected by a strong, waterproof material that can withstand even the most “enthusiastic” play.
