Young-Williams Animal Center is one of 38 animal rescue organizations nationwide that have received funding from the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) to participate in the Mega Match-a-thon adoption event Oct. 18-20.
Throughout the weekend, East Tennesseans can take advantage of half-price adoption fees on all dogs and cats at Young-Williams Animal Center. Every adopted pet will also go home with a free collar and personalized ID tag.
Both Young-Williams Animal Center at 3201 Division St. and Young-Williams Animal Village at 6400 Kingston Pike will open early at 9 a.m. for the special event and remain open until 6 p.m. on Oct. 18-20.
“The goal of the ASPCA Mega Match-a-thon is to save more shelter animal lives, and Young-Williams is proud and excited to participate in this nationwide event to encourage pet adoptions,” said Young-Williams Animal Center CEO Jeff Ashin. “Thanks to the funding from the ASPCA, we’re able to offer reduced adoption fees and free collars and ID tags for pets all weekend.”
The Mega Match-a-thon free collar and ID tag will be provided in addition to a microchip and microchip registration for each pet, which is part of Young-Williams’ standard veterinary care package for all adopted animals.
“Using an ID tag, along with a microchip, helps owners find lost pets, and reuniting stray pets with their owners is one of the greatest opportunities to decrease the number of homeless pets in the shelter,” Ashin said. “Owner reclaim is second only to spaying and neutering as the simplest, most effective way to reduce animal homelessness and the resulting necessity of euthanasia in our community.”
During the Mega Match-a-thon, half-price adoption fees include puppies and kittens for $75, adult dogs and cats for $37.50 and senior dogs and cats for $25.
“Last year’s nationwide ASPCA Mega Match-a-thon saw more than 6,100 pets adopted across the U.S. in just one weekend,” said Julie Morris, senior vice president of community outreach for the ASPCA. “These events are a great opportunity for the participants to make noise about all of the wonderful dogs and cats in their care that are just waiting for someone to bring them home.”
