Adoption special observes International Homeless Animals’ Day
Dogs like Maxie, a 4-year-old German Shepherd mix, are available for adoption at Young-Williams Animal Center. From Friday, Aug. 15, to Sunday, Aug.17, adult pets will be reduced to $37.50 during the “Homes for the Homeless” adoption special marking International Homeless Animals’ Day on Saturday, Aug. 16.
This weekend, Young-Williams Animal Center is offering an adoption special to mark International Homeless Animal Day on Saturday, Aug. 16.
The International Society for Animal Rights launched International Homeless Animals’ Day in 1992 to raise awareness of pet overpopulation and spay/neuter solutions.
Through July 31, Young-Williams Animal Center has taken in more than 7,000 homeless animals.
“It’s important our community understands how many animals are coming through our doors,” Jeff Ashin, Young-Williams Animal Center CEO, said. “As the official shelter for the City of Knoxville and Knox County, we take in every stray, lost and surrendered animal in the community.
“In addition to sharing this information, we’re also reducing the adoption fees for all adult animals in our shelter to increase awareness and encourage adoptions in our community.”
From Friday, Aug. 15, through Sunday, Aug. 17, adoption fees for adult dogs and cats will be reduced 50 percent to $37.50 and senior pets are $25.
Every adopted animal will receive the services covered by the regular adoption fees, which include a veterinary physical exam, spay/neuter surgery, some standard vaccinations, a microchip with registration and more. The adoption prices will be available at Young-Williams Animal Center at 3201 Division St., off Sutherland Avenue, and the Young-Williams Animal Village at 6400 Kingston Pike on Bearden Hill.
