Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon sets new date for 2020 races

March 25, 2020

The 16th annual Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon events will now take place Nov. 14-15. The Kids Run is scheduled for Saturday evening, and the marathon, half marathon, relay events and 5K are set for Sunday morning. The weekend also will include the Health & Fitness Expo and a post-race celebration for all runners, volunteers and spectators.

Originally planned for the weekend of March 28-29, the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon was postponed as a precaution to limit potential spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

“As soon as we made the tough decision to postpone the 2020 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon, our team and partners worked diligently with the City of Knoxville and other key partners to secure a new date,” said Jason Altman, race director of the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon. “This race inspires, motivates and transforms lives, and we are glad participants and supporters still have the opportunity to experience East Tennessee’s largest competitive road race later this year. We can’t wait to see everyone at the start line in November.”

The Covenant Kids Run is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14. The marathon, half marathon and relay events start at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15, with the 5K race beginning at 7:45 a.m.

Online registration is open now at www.knoxvillemarathon.com for those who are not currently registered and want to participate in the rescheduled events in November.

Participants who already registered for the 2020 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon will have the following options:

  • Participate in the event on Nov. 14-15.
  • Defer entry to the 2021 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon at no charge.
  • Receive a refund for the registration fee.
  • Donate the registration fee to the Knoxville Track Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Race participants will be contacted by the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon via email with instructions on how to select an option.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding that both participants and supporters have shown during this time of uncertainty,” Covenant Health CEO Jim VanderSteeg said. “We look forward to seeing everyone in downtown Knoxville in November. In the meantime, we all are doing our part to keep our community safe and healthy, and we encourage everyone to continue their healthy habits and physical activity.”
