Celebrity chef event raises awareness for diabetes, healthy eating
The first-ever Knoxville Celebrity Chef Diabetes Expo will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn World’s Fair Park. The event is organized and sponsored by South College’s American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), the American Diabetes Association, Novo Nordisk and Kroger Pharmacy.
At noon, Curtis Aikens, a celebrity chef for the Food Network, will demonstrate how to make a low-carb, full-flavor dish and will share some of his favorite healthy recipes. A Novo Nordisk diabetes educator will provide an educational workshop about healthy eating and tools to manage daily care and live well with diabetes.
Vendor booths covering all aspects of diabetes management and expert educational sessions also will be available. South College student pharmacists will provide blood pressure and blood glucose screenings, as well as smoking cessation education.
The event is free. Pre-registration is encouraged. To reserve your space for the event, visit www.diabetes.org or contact Wendi Mullins at [email protected] or 865-524-7868, ext. 3343, for more information.
